Gallows Tree (in Boirs) BASSENGE / BELGIUM description:This tree is a chesnut tree with a girth of 4,3 metres.
In the past, the condamned were hung here.
This tree stands on the highest spot in Limburg (not taking Fourons into account). O
It stands on 151 metres above the sea level. (Thanks to Ingrid Somers)
This year (2007), the tree only has very few leaves. We think its dead is close
now... and this makes us very sad!!
Luc Désamoré (translated by us): 'Today Mai 26 th 2008, I sadly see this tree has
passed away. On your pictures of 2007, you can already see it was no more than a shadow
of itself.'
In the meantime, we heard the tree indeed is condamned, and will be replaced by an
oak.
Anno 2014: now there is a new young tree.
