City walls - Monte Real Castle Baiona / Spain description:

The roots of this castle turn back to the Catholic Kings during the Middle Ages. In times of danger, the citizens of Baione could prtect themselves in the castle.

The castle was repaired and improved between the 16th and the 18th century.

Note that it was also here that Christopher Columbus arrived in his Pinta after he discovered America.
