Shipka Tower Shipka / Bulgaria description:The Shipka tower is built on the Stoletov peak, close to the Shipka Pass.
It is a war monument, to honor the memorial of the casualties fallen during the Bulgarian Liberation war in 1877-1878 during the battle of the Shipka Pass. The Shipka tower was opened in 1934, and was made according to the plans of architect Atanas Donkov and sculptor Aleksandar Andreev.
It is a stone tower of 31.5 metres high. Above the entrance there is a bronze lion. A statue of a woman represent the Russion-Bulgarian victory on the Ottoman armies.
In the interior there is a marble sarcophagus with remains of Russian and Bulgarian casualties.
The tower gives great view on the environment.
