Maramures is famous for the wood carving. This is a richly decorated wooden crucifix, including a roof with wooden tiles.

On the cross there is an inscription 'Daca vrea cineva sa vina dupa mine sa-si ia crucea si sa mi urmeze mi'. After Google, this means something like 'If someone wants to come after me to take my cross and follow me'
