Chatelet Fountain / Palm Tree Fountain Paris / FRANCE description:This fountain was ordered in 1806 by emperor Napoleon
Bonaparte to commemorate his victories in Lodi, Arcole, Rivoli, Pyramides, Mont
Thabor, Marengo, Austerlitz, Ulm, Iena,
Eylau,
Dantzig and Friedland and at the same time to give water to the people of Paris. It was
finished in 1808.
At the top of the pillar there are palm leaves, which explains the
name.
On top of the pillar there is a bronze statue
representing Victoria by Louis-Simon
Boizot. The current statue however is a copy, the original is in the
Carnavalet museum.
