Round or polygonal overhanging bulge on the corner of a building. Often over several floors and mostly ending in a tower-like crowning (see guerite tower). Originally built as a wedge tower it was used later on as a decorative element. In the late Middle Ages and in the 16th century it was also used als an altar niche fot the house chapel.
