Former Landhouse of Brugian Freedom BRUGES / BELGIUM description:

This former landhouse of the Brugean 'Vrije' was built in 1726 according to the orders of the architect Jan van der Cruycen. At this very place stood once the 'love', the second countal residence.

It is an example of classicistic baroque with french influence.

The sober main fassade is refreshed in the middle with an entrance. This is crowned with a portico, formed through a balcony, supported on both sides by a couple of pillars. Above the cornice a fronton, with the scuteon of the brugean 'Vrije', crownes the entrance.

Originally the facade was painted, but in 1911 the polychromy was eliminated.

Via the central entranceporch you can reach the innercourt, that is formed by three identical fassades.

Some restants of the 10 th century castlewalls are still contained in one of the cellars.
