Francopan Castle Krk / CROATIA description:

The Francopan castle was built between the 12th and the 14th century, and was meant to defend the city for attacks over sea.


The square tower served as court house.

An inscription above the entrance proves that the courthouse was built in 1191.

The cylindric tower is more recent, 13th or 14th century. It was retaurated at several occasions. The inscription 'Aureae Venetorum libertati' with Saint Mark's Lions is from 1500.
