San Miguel de Lillo church OVIEDO / Spain description:This is one of the Pre Norman churches around Oviedo. Is lies very close to the Saint Maria of Naranco church.
Originally, this was the church which was consacrated to Maria. It was consecrated by Ramiro I and his wife Paterna in 848.
Originally, this was a three-aisled basilica with a tunnel vault. But during 12 and/or 13th century, a part collapsed. We assume that this was one of the reasons why the Saint Maria of Naranco became a real church and was consacrated to Mary.
From the original church, about half remains. This includes a very remarkable window with tracery, that was carved out of 1 stone.
