Saint Nedelia's church Batak / Bulgaria description:In and around this church, in 1876 a horrible massacre took place. Otomane soldiers and Muslims killed a lot of people.
Frank Bouman (translated by us): 'The massacre to which if referred, didn't happen like believed. In 2007 investigation showed that this was not an organized war crime, but the action of 1 drunk Otomane soldier, who was punished by the Otomane authorities afterwards. This controversial investigation was not accepted with open arms... and media even sent messages preaching for a murder on the investigator.
The painting of the massacre would have been made based on produced pictures - set in scene with actors. The president at that time decided not to forget this piece of collective awareness... '
