Pettingen Castle / Pittigero Mazini Castle Pettingen / Luxembourg description:During the 10th century, this castle was known as Pittigero Mazini. By the
13th century, it was Pettingen Castle. The Sirs of Pettingen were important people in the
region.
One of their descendants, Jean, fought for René, Duke of Lotharingen, against Charles
the Bold, duke of Bourgondia. After the treaty of Mechelen in 1503, Jean got back half of
his treasure and could rebuild the castle in it's current shape. In 1571 the
turrets were added.
In 1684, the castle was bombed by the troups of Louis XIV, after which not much more
than ruins/a> were left. In the end, in 1910, the Prins of Arenberg removed
everything left of value, and in 1920 the south wall collapsed.
