Water Gate Sneek / Netherlands description:

This city gate was one of the 5 watergates of Sneek. it was built at the end of the 15th century, and with the 4 other watergates and 2 land gates is was one of the access points towards the city Sneek. Nowadays, this gate is the only remainder of that, the other gates disappeared during the 19th century.

In 1613, the defensive functionality disappeared and the gate became an orniment for the city. In 1785 a watch house was added.
