Oblique house - House Bulging Out Over the Road - John Boys House Canterbury / United Kingdom description:This timber framing corner house skewed obliquely
bizar on the ground floor. The corbeling out floors give it a
very heavy look.
This house also shows one of the benefits of timber framing, wood can undergo some
pulling forces... However, to avoid further collapse a metal frame is built in the
interior.
Probably the ground floor glided related to internal works on a chimney.
It is very dubtful whether this house really belonged to John Boys. He died in 1612 and
we probably the house was only built in 1617.
The house is also referred to as Crooked House, King's Gallery, of Old Kings
shop.
