Saint Thomas' church - Sankt Thomae Soest / Germany description:This former church was seriously damaged on March 7th 1945 by the bombs.
It's reconstruction only started in 1963.
The oblique spire sure is no error. On a painting from 1653
one can already see how thetoren (rebuilt after thunder struck) was
oblique. That's why people called this church 'the Oblique Tower'.
The former Saint Thomas (Sankt Thomae) church has it's roots in the 9th century when
it was a hall church. Around 1180 it was a Romanesque
basilica. But changes went on... The choir is early Gothic
from around 1270.
