Burghof Museum Soest / Germany description:This ensemble, nowadays mainly used as museum, was a large
gentleman's house. There are 3 buildings: the
Romanesque house from about 1200, the
early renaissance gentleman's house from 1559 and a building
from 1553.
The romanesque house, with window with round arch with
dividing columns, in fact is a remainder of a much larger
house.
The early renaissance main house is still original on the exterior. However,
inside it evoluated with the centuries. Inside you find the 'Knights Room', a
beautiful room used by the city for weddings.
The history of the building is linked to very powerful families, like the family
Dael and the Fürstenberg family. The decoration if the knight room gives an idea of
their wealth.
The museum shows local historic pieces, some dating from the neolythic times.
Outside, one sees an interesting collection of grave stones.
