Spaniola Tower Fribourg / Switzerland description:

The castle of Pontresina was probably built between 1240 and 1307. Howoever, the keep is elder, prabably from around 1200. In 1307, the last male descendant from the family died, and the power of broken.

The Sirs from Pontresina were one moment the most powerful family in the Obergadin.

During the 15th century, the donjon was abandonned and by 1550 it had fallen into ruins.

The name Spaniola tower is more recent.

Like a typical donjon, the entrance was not on the ground level. instead, it was much higher in the walls. You still see the passage under semi-circular arch and the consoles by which the outer side was supported. On the other side of the tower there is another passage, probably this used to be the toilet. Here and there you see some embrassuses, and merlons at the top.
