The parish church of Satmar was promoted to cathedral by bishop Fischer
István at the beginning of the 19th century. This also led to a drastic enlargement

The new front face f the cathedral is 15,8 m high. On both sides

balconies and a dome shaped spire. Under the church there
is a crypt.
The final shape of the cathedral come under bishop Ham János (bishop in 1827-
1857). The portico dates with it's large pillars from
this period. The front carries statues of the Savior in the middle,
right St. Peter and left St. Paul. On the loer part of the towers one finds statues
representing Saint-Stephan and Saint Ladislaus, who were Hungarian kings.
