Old City Hall Passau / Germany description:This is the old city hall of Passau. It's close to the banks of the Donau
river. It was built in this place around 1400 in Gothic style (before, on
this place there was the Fish Market). In 1446 there were 1446 already fassade
frescos by Ruprecht Fueterer andRueland Frueauf The Elder. The
building was often modified through history and enlarged (f.e. byincluding other
buildings).
The current 38 m high neo-Gothic tower was built in
1889-1892 by Heinrich Freiherr von Schmid. This tower in fact replaced it's predecessor,
that was broken off in 1811.The neo-Gothic tower has many Gothic elements like
pointed arches, trefoil tracery,
quatrefoils, crockets....
The current fresco's on the outside date from 1922 and were made by Joseph Hengge
gemaakt.
Since 1991, the tower houses a carillon of 21 bells.
