Ruins of Fortress Kaliakra / Bulgaria description:Ruins of the castle of Kaliakra, built on the
cape of Kaliakra.
There are some bloody legends linked to the bloody history of this site... When the
Tooman soldiers were on the edge of capturing the castle, about 42 bulgarian girls
preferred death above being raped. The tied themselves together by their hair, and threw
tenselves in the depth from the 70 metres high cliffs into the sea...
Another legend is related to Saint Nicolaas, the patron of the bulgarian seamen. He was
chased by the Ottomans... To help him escape, God made the ground under his feet solid....
which created the cape. Anyway... the Ottomans managed to catch him... As a memory to
this, in 1993 a chapel was built.
