Mines' cathedral(000173)

The word 'Cathedral of the mines' is used to indicate monumental churches built by the several mining companies in Limbourg during the years 1930. Those companies took the initiative of building those churches themselves, and paid the major part of them. They also took care of the maintenance. On the other hand, they had a word in deciding who would become priest in them. Typical for those churches is the very modern way (for that period in time) to construct them, based upon a a skeleton of concrete, clothed by bricks. Also their very high quality, and the short building time are typical features. (Thanks to Ivo Swinnen)
