Freyr Castle HASTIERE / BELGIUM description:The eldest part of this castle dates from 1571. It replaced a Middle Age castle, which was built on a dry place in the valley of the Maas.
This part of the castle is a typical example for Mosane Renaissance. The bricks are interchanged by thick layers of bacon in nature stone, and there are cross-bar frame windows.
During the second half of the 17th century new aisles were added.
The summer house of 1774 is an example of classicist rococo, and served as ending point for the strict geometric, French gardens. With the exception of the middle ressault this building only is 1 span deep.
