OsthofenTor - East Hofen Gate Soest / Germany description:The current Osthofen city gate was built during the 16th century (probably 1523-1526 but some sources point to 1594-1603). In 1890, the adjoining city
walls were broken off, leaving the gate as detached building. Between 1978 and 1982
a city museum was started showing a lot of weapons.
You see wide embrasures, useful for fire weapons (and
canons???). The city entrtance is under a widepointed arch.
Remarkable are the corner oriels with
trilobate tracery, the oriel in the middle with a
tabernacle and half-reliefs besides it, and
heigher a decorated frieze.
