OsthofenTor - East Hofen Gate Soest / Germany description:The current Osthofen city gate was built during the 16th century (probably 1523-1526 but some sources point to 1594-1603). In 1890, the adjoining   city 
walls were broken off, leaving the gate as detached building. Between 1978 and 1982 
a city museum was started showing a lot of weapons. 
 You see wide  embrasures, useful for fire weapons (and 
canons???). The city entrtance is under a widepointed arch. 
Remarkable are the corner oriels with  
trilobate tracery, the oriel in the middle with a  
tabernacle and half-reliefs besides it, and 
heigher a  decorated frieze.
