Firebrigade Tower (Tumul Pompierilor) Satu Mare / Romania description:This 47 metres heigh tower was built in 1903-1904 by the initiative of
bisshop Gyula Meszlényi. Architect was Ferencz Dittler, construction works done by
Lajos Vajnay. At the top, there is a balcony with wooden floor supported
by metal with a wrought iron breastwork. The tower is
crowned by a clock shaped spire, carrying the waepons of the city of Satu
Mare. At the bottom, the shape of the tower is square, higher switching to a
circularshape with a metal wspiral staircase.
Because of the height and the central position in the city, the tower was used as
firespotting place by the Satu Mare fire brigade. The tower is a bit
higher than the one of the Calvaria basilica.
